In the olden days light was a rare commodity. It was precious. With no electricity pioneers had to light a fire or carry a lantern - like this candle lantern here.

Light made those early pioneers feel safe and warm. God tells us to be the light of the world. We can be the light of the world because Jesus is in us and Jesus said he is the light of the world If Jesus is in us, the light is in us.

Our Bible passage tells us that we are the light of the world and that we should let our light shine and not be hidden, so that men will see our good deeds and give praise and thanks to God. This week (and every week) - remember this lantern - remember the warm light it gives - remember that Jesus is in you and that you are the light of the world - shine and let people see you do good things so that they will praise God.
