TITLE:Faith without works is dead AIM:To show that needs to be an effect of our "light shining" TEXT:James 2:14-17 OBJECT:Oil warmer, candle, fragrant oi
lBEFORE the devotion put one tablespoon of hot water in the top of the oil and a couple of drops of the fragrant oil in the oil warmer/vaporiser. Light the candle and put it underneath. Allow plenty of time for the
fragrance to fill the room where the devotion will be held.
Can you smell that smell? What is it?
It's coming from this small oil warmer. [describe the setup, how it works etc]
The candle
causes the water to heat up and makes the oil evaporate and fill the room with this beautiful fragrance.
This is like our life when we become a Christian, or become a member of God's family.
Listen to what the Bible says:
[read passage]
What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and
daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied
by action, is dead.
Our faith [like the candle] should show a result or works or eveidence that we are a Christian [like the beautiful fragrance].
If not where is our faith?
